for the past few seasons i've been completely obsessed with embroidery, whether new or vintage, i'm always on the hunt for it. i managed to pick up an embroidered/jacquard vintage jacket in korea and have been trying to get my hands on some equally dope jeans which seems to be impossible. 

i've always been really into unique fabrics and the techniques designers use to create their pieces. i'm just a sucker for it and pretty much am just drawn to different textures. 
it's those details that just set things off.

i picked up this gridiron inspired tee a little while back, i love it. take's me back to the 90's when i used to rock oversize jerseys everywhere with my pants sagged below my ass, as well as when i lived in sydney and had numerous nicknames from my homies with a standout name being loc(o). it was basically made for me.

harris tweed x urbanears

for the past 6 months or so i have been using headphones by stockholm's urbanears, it took me a while to find a pair i really liked, but finally came across these goodies.

i actually never realized how picky i was when it came to headphones, i've never been really good with the ear plug styles as for some reason they continually fall out of my ears, so i always go for the option of wearing them on my head, only issue with that was i always found when a brand made a style like that, they went way to big and it felt like i was rocking a princess leia hair cut.

urbanears are the perfect size for me, they're pretty dope, simple design, but more importantly they sound great. i recently received another pair, a special edition piece from the extremely popular "plattan" line - harris tweed x urbanears.

every season i find some really dope pieces that i just have to have, i pretty much have a wish list of items so that when i look around stores i don't impulsively buy something and actually try and save money so i can get them. it's kind of a way for me to really see how much i really want something.

so there were 2 items on this list for a little while that i've had my eye on since their release, the cropped givenchy sweatshirts which i had been using various colours of on past photoshoots, and another was the new nike flyknits which for some reason have been extremely hard to find in hong kong. lucky for me i somehow stumbled across a little "hole in the wall" spot which had a pair, and even luckier it was my size!

i missed out on the sweatshirt, they disappeared by the time i went to get one, so the other day i decided to get crafty and just make myself something inspired by the piece, hopefully one day i find it again but at least for the meantime i've got this joint.

it's been a long time..

december is usually quite a busy time of year for everyone, this was especially the case for me to end 2012. i had heaps of deadlines to meet before the year closed and even tighter one's as i was starting my holidays earlier to go back to sydney for the christmas and new year break. no idea how i managed to actually get everything done!

i had a dope time back home, spent most of the trip laying out in the sun with my homies and finally getting some much needed colour. unfortunately every trip has to come to an end, so here i am, back in the kong. one upside for coming back was just before i left i picked up this  a. wang bomber, so finally i have a chance to rock it.

it's finally time to start wearing the winter threads again, it's not winter yet but it's definitely approaching fast. hong kong only ever has that in-between season for about 3 weeks, it's basically either hot or cold... and the cold has completely creeped up on me.

don't get it twisted, i love this time of year, as do most people who are into fashion. it's the typical answer of being able to do more with what you wear, more accessory options, the choice of layering different pieces and just being able to pile everything on. to be honest though, after living in hong kong for some time now i'm pretty much just looking forward to just being able to walk down the street and not break into a sweat. that, and i get to wear my beanies again.

i don't know why i keep doing this but for some reason i try to hold on to the wearing of long sleeves for as along as possible. no idea why, maybe because i love cooler weather and am just in denial about it heating up. for whatever reason though, hong kong is definitely not the city to do this in.

it's starting to get extremely hot and i have made the decision to wear my sleeves down in a city with crazy humidity. i think this is definitely the last day i will be able to do this, until winter starts kicking in again that is. luckily it's not too bad today, but i think trying to do this again any time soon will be a massive mistake.

so, for the last time (for about 6 months anyway), here i am in my hood (sheung wan)... with my sleeves down.

some of you may know that i celebrated my birthday a few days ago. the "dirty thirty".

to be honest, i wasn't looking forward to turning thirty, getting older isn't so bad, but celebrating the big 3-0 without any of my homies from sydney just didn't feel right.

well, i was completely wrong! i did miss my mates, but have to say i had an amazing birthday weekend regardless.

it started off with my brother gino flying to hong kong and surprising me while out to dinner with my girlfriend (i was speechless and pretty sure i looked dumbfounded), had an awesome dinner the following night with great company and a few dope nights out as well.

my girlfriend also got me a trip to japan, plus more! my parents even got me this amazing acne camo number, and to top it all off, received this extra special ring, my dad's graduating university ring from '73.

it seem's like 30 is going to be a great year!

i've always been a huge fan of headwear, you may have noticed i love rocking a beanie in the colder months, but apart from that, i pretty much just love a really classic shape of headwear. whether it's a baseball cap, 5 panel, beanie, train driver hats, fedora or a cowboy style even, headwear is a staple accessory of mine. i do love the classic styles, but what i really get down with is a classic silhouette done with a modern twist.

for instance, one of my homies from sydney, tris, who just came for a quick visit to the kong is developing his own line of hats. a classic bucket hat style (which i'm really feeling this season) with nice little details, dope fabrics and lining, re-enforced brims, contrast stitching, everything that i could possibly ask for in a hat. I'm really into patterns and print this season, so a bucket hat with a nice paisley or floral print is something i've been trying to get my hands on in time for the warmer weather.

lately i've been wanting a lot more jewelry, i already wear a little but am going through a phase of wanting to just cover my fingers in rings. the downside is i don't really have enough rings to do this the way i want so i have to start out slow.

awesome thing is, my girlfriend andy listens and suprised me with a ring when returning from her recent trip overseas. it's exactly the type of ring i was after, all i need now is about 3 or 4 more and i'll be set.

it's a great start though!

one thing in hong kong that i have noticed that i guess translates to a lot of other countries, is that during the winter season, black and grey becomes a staple in everyones wardrobe.

people tend to step their fashion game up into high gear during the colder months, accessorising and layering like crazy, but for some reason forget about colour. it's kind of strange that a time of year surrounded by so many holidays and parties, people are sticking to the monotone palette. don't get me wrong, i am still very much into navy for this winter, i'm no stranger to the black hoodie, black socks, black beanies etc. as well, but i think during this festive period, i was expecting to see more.

i think amongst all this black and grey, i'm feeling inspired to bust out more colour and print.

the temperature has finally dropped in hong kong, winter's here! so the darker tones are coming out again.

finally i can wear all those beanies, thick button downs and jackets i brought with me from sydney. sorry, jacket (singular) i brought with me. who new hong kong would be freezing in winter!?

lately i've been going through a massive navy phase. actually not lately, i've always really liked the colour. i'm really drawn to it for some reason, it's always a staple in my wardrobe and this season is no different. i'm pretty sure my latest purchases have all been navy, a pair of vans spectators, the peacoat chukka boots and hat i'm wearing today, a pair of pants, some socks and right now i have my eye on a navy suede bag. 

you can never have too much navy!
